What is Blue Yonder Planogram Generator Client?

Blue Yonder Planogram Generator Client (formerly known as myPG) is a desktop-based automation tool embedded within the Space Planning application that allows individual merchandisers to automate the creation of store-specific planograms on a smaller scale, providing the power of algorithmic merchandising without requiring a full enterprise server implementation.

While Planogram Generator Enterprise is a factory that churns out thousands of planograms overnight on a server, Planogram Generator Client is the laboratory. It runs locally on the user's laptop. It allows a space planner to take a "Template" planogram and a set of rules (e.g., "Sort by Price," "Block by Brand") and instantly generate a specific version for a specific store cluster to test if the logic works. It is the bridge between manual drawing and mass automation.

Why It Matters: Personal Automation

Not every retailer needs to generate 5,000 planograms every night. Some just need to generate 50 versions for a regional test. Planogram Generator Client democratizes automation.

  • No Server Required: It runs entirely in-memory on the desktop. You don't need IT to spin up a batch server or configure a complex database job. You just click "Run."
  • Immediate Feedback: It is interactive. A user can tweak a rule—"What if I change the blocking order?"—and see the result in seconds. This makes it the perfect environment for prototyping the logic before deploying it to the enterprise server.
  • Efficiency for Mid-Sized Teams: For smaller manufacturers or retailers who don't have a massive Category Knowledge Base (CKB) infrastructure, this tool provides the same "math" as the big players without the infrastructure cost.

Key Capabilities

  1. Action Lists: The core logic engine. Users build a step-by-step recipe for the software to follow. Step 1: Fill the bottom shelf with large packs. Step 2: Fill eye-level shelves with best-sellers. Step 3: Fill remaining space with new innovation.
  2. Template & Target Logic: It takes a "Master" planogram (Template) and applies it to a specific store's dimensions (Target). If the Target is 4ft wide and the Template is 8ft wide, the software intelligently cuts products based on your rules to fit the smaller space.
  3. Multi-Planogram Generation: While it isn't designed for thousands, it can easily handle dozens. A user can select 50 diverse stores and tell the Client to generate unique planograms for all of them while they go get a coffee.
  4. Fitting Analysis: It reports on success/failure. If the products didn't fit, it tells you why: "Could not place Item X because the shelf height was too low." This allows the user to fix the rule or the fixture data immediately.

The Blue Yonder Difference

Blue Yonder differentiates this tool through Scalable Logic. The beauty of the Client edition is that it uses the exact same scripting language as the Enterprise edition. You can build and perfect your automation logic on your laptop using the Client, and once it is perfect, you can upload that same script to the Enterprise Server to run it across 2,000 stores. It ensures that the work done by the individual planner is fully reusable at the enterprise level.
